So sorry to learn this. Sylvia and I went to Jefferson Elementary together. She was always such a sweet person.

I did not know Sylvia as well as I should have.  Simple greetings in the hallways, and always a positive comment after a musical performance.  One thing was certain.  She could make some beautiful music on the xylophone.  How many times did we attend an assembly where she was featured, and marvel at her talent.  That special ability could only come from a special person.  RIP Sylvia!!

I was in the drum section with Sylvia.  She could keep up with the rest of us guys with no problem.  She was very versatile.

I met Sylvia at Washington.  Jean T., Sylvia and I would often meet up on Washington Road and walk the rest of the way to school.  She was so musically talented.  Not only a percussion whiz, also piano. We did many things together as we went through the junior high and high school years. At college we separated.  I did see her once after many years.  She lived in the Milwaukee area, had a family.  I remember her youngest girl was being home schooled by Sylvia at that time.  By then Sylvia had converted to Seventh Day Adventist followings. Her marimba playing skills were magical as was her rhythm taps on that old rubber exercise pad.  I am sure many band members remember the lessons by Manny Mitka.  Sylvia and I especially enjoyed doing duets and stuff on the pianos at both our homes.
