Carol Ann DEGENER Martin of Gilman, WI passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 4, 2025. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA to John J. Degener, Sr. and Irene F. (Filo) Degener. Carol resided in Gilman, WI, and prior resided in Salem, WI. She attended Moniteau Senior High School in West Sunbury, PA and Mary D. Bradford High School. She graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a bachelor's degree in nursing.
Carol was a registered nurse (RN) for more than 25 years, devoted to patient care. She began her nursing career on the OB floor at Burlington Hospital in Burlington, WI, and retired as the clinical care coordinator at Wynwood (Brookdale) Senior Living Center in Pleasant Prairie, WI,
Carol was preceded in death by her father, John J. Degener, Sr.; her brother Kenneth J. Harding, Jr; her stepfather, Kenneth Harding, Sr.; and her mother, Irene Harding.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Steven J. Martin; two brothers, John (Pam) Degener and Thomas (Beverly) Degener: six children, Colleen (Alan) Zenner, Shawn (Renee) Dickey, Shannon Sullivan (Mark Robers), Briana (Andres) Lopez, Kevin Dickey, and Nicholas (Sarah) Martin; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Per Carol's request, there will not be a memorial service. She chose to have a celebration of her life with loved ones before her passing, and was also honored with a living tribute by the Nurses Honor Guard for her service in nursing. Please remember Carol in other ways such as her love of flowers and birds, cheering on her favorite sports teams, trying new recipes, and traveling when she had the chance. She will be missed and never forgotten by many.
Donations may be sent in her name to St, Jude Children's Research Hospital.
