We announce the passing of Richard "Dick" Oass, age 77 who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 1, 2023 at the Clement Zablocki Veterans Administration hospice unit from complications of lleukemia. Dick was born on March 28, 1946 to the late Gustav and Alice Oass and grew up in both Kenosha and Naperville, IL graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School and attended UW Parkside. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965 and proudly served his country. He was wounded in combat during his tour in Vietnam, and was awarded the Purple Heart many years later. Dick was employed at Illinois Bell and the U.S. Post Office prior to his retirement.
On December 18, 1971, he married Bennie Scism at St. Mary's Lutheran Church in Kenosha, and together they raised two daughters. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Michigan, owning a charter business for several years, attending car shows in his restored 1968 GTO, and participating in several Vietnam veteran groups,
Surviving are his wife Bennie, daughters Jennifer Oas of Racine and Dawn Oass of Kenosha, three grand- children, one great grandchild, and a sister, Jean Antes. His brother, Tom Oas preceded him in death.
A memorial service with military honors was held at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Casey Family Options
