In Memory

Susan Strangberg (Rose)

Susan M. Rose "Sue" passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Hospice Alliance Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie, WI on October 24, 2025.  Sue was born on June 3, 1946 in Kenosha, WI to Lewis and Helen Strangberg.  Sue attended local schools and graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1967 as a Registered Nurse.

Sue married John M. Rose (Jack) on July 5, 1969 in Kenosha, WI, and began her 26 year tour as the "Toughest job in the Navy, a Navy wife".  Her daughter was born in Milton, FL and her son in Honolulu, HI.  Both children were born just prior to moving to their next duty assignment.   After an initial job at Kenosha Memorial Hospital, Sue continued her nursing career as the kids got older while the family moved around the country.  She retired in 2012 with 30 years as an RN having worked in the OR in Milton, FL and as a pediatric office nurse in Alexandria, VA, Atlanta, GA, and Racine, WI.

With over 56 years of marriage, Sue enjoyed traveling to such spots as Acapulco, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Maui, but her best memories were the family gatherings in the Outer Banks, NC.  She loved gardening and keeping her house "ship shape."  Sue also provided over 20 years of volunteer work with NAMI Kenosha.  She enjoyed her membership at the YMCA as well.

Sue is survived by her husband, Jack Rose, her daughter, Sita Rose Young (John Young) of Scottsville, VA; her son, Brody Rose (Zenide); granddaughters Liliana Rose and Daphane Rose of Washington, D.C, and her sister, Karen Strangberg of Kenosha, WI.

A memorial service to celebrate Sue's life will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at 5 PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kenosha (8760-37 Avenue, Kenosha, WI 53142).  Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at the Church from 3 PM until the time of service.

Internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetary at a later date.

Memorials in Susan's name can be made to Hospice Alliance of Kenosha or N.A.M.I. Kenosha (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

*Sue was a long time member of the 1964 Reunion Committee.  She will be deeply missed.

Sue was the sweetest, kindest, nicest person I have ever known.  I first met her at some youth church activities we had between different churches.  She will be missed.  I know Jack is fortunate to have been with her all these years.  God Bless and Rest in Peace, Sue.

Sue was one of the many angles that you were fortunate to have had in your life.

Her smile and optimistic attitude were always present when asked to help. Her husband was fortunate to have had such a great partner.

Heaven just got one of the best.

73 years is a long time to have a continual positive presence in your life.

We were 6 years old when I said "Hi, Sue" for the first time during Sunday School. For all the special memories over the years, the last 2 plus years of phone calls on most Mondays that began with "Hi, Tim", or "Hi, Sue", are times I will cherish forever. It didn't matter that we might be newsless. The stories, the humor, and the laughter were like an elixir for the soul.

I am so thankful for the 73 years of her friendship.

Sue was my frist girl friend when we went to :Lincoln jr high. Many great memories of Friday night parties and many good times. After  a couple years we decided to see others, but continued our friendship over the years. Jack and Sue were married on July 5th 1969, I married my wife Ellen the same day and year so I called to wish them happy anniversary on our special day. I cherish the last two visits we had with Sue and Jack one in Kenosha where we spent the day  and one in Rockford at my home. Sue was a great friend!
