Vaughn Voight

Vaughn Voight passed away on March 12, 2021.  The family held a memorial service recently on Zoom. This information and the following story were provided by Robert C. (R.C.) Simmons, and he asked I share with our  classmates:

"Classmate Sue Arndt (Sayles) and I were kind of responsible for Vaughn meeting his "bride to be."  Sue and I had met while I was home on leave from the USAF in early 1969.  Sue was a student at UW-Madison.  I had a weekend date with Sue in Madison and Vaughn asked to go a long.  He brought his snowmobile, and he wanted to to try snowmobiling Up there.  Sue had arranged for one of her roommates to go along sort of as a date for Vaughn.  Well, that roommate couldn't go, so Fran (another roommate) stepped in so Vaughn wouldn't feel like a third wheel with Sue and I.  They hit if off immediately and married a little over a year later (2/70). Fran and Vaughn were married for 51 years. He is survived by his wife, Fran, his four children, Sean, Melisa, Todd and Nicholas.  He is further survived by his brother, Wayne.   Vaughn was a great friend, was a great story-teller, and had a great sense of humor.  He would have been 75 on May 28, 2021."

I was happy to be part of the ZOOM memorial that Fran arranged. We shared many stories about Vaughn, RC (Bob Simmons), DJ ( John Norfleet) and myself. Our group always had fun whether we were making the "41 run" among the teen bars, camping and summer jobs. It seems that whatever we did we always had great memories to share. Vaughn will be missed, but remembered.
