Friends since grade school. RIP Freddy!Susan K. Richardson (Sipich)
Wow, I remember Freddie, a great athlete, very positive guy and always a smile. His company put in the furnace in our rental. Remember I had a good time with him and his wife at one of the reunions. My heart goes out to the family.

I was sad to hear about Freddie's passing. My condolances go out to his family. I spent many years chasing Freddie around the oval track at Lakefront Stadium. Never could catch him. We had loads of fun being on the track team together at Bradford. He was a great athlete and a wonderful person. Always had warmth in his heart. He will be sorly missed!

Although I didn't know Fred DeLacy, I remember the first time I saw him, which was the first gym class of the 1961 fall semester. The entire class, about 100 strong, was directed outside to the front of the Annex. We were told to line up on the sidewalk and, once in place, told to run as fast as you could around the building. Making the first turn I could see a guy already about 50 yards ahead of the pack. By time I was approaching the third turn with my lungs on fire, he had rounded the fourth and was heading for the finish line with all the coaches in pursuit. My guess is that they had no idea there was such an athelete in the class and could already see the trophies and state records to come.

We were friends in at MDB and we stayed that way into adulthood. We didn't see each other too often but when we did meet up it was like we just saw each other. As other people said, he was a great athlete and ber competive in whatever he did. He kept his faith close to his heart and worked it all his life. God Bless you Fred and rest in peace.

My friend was a gifted athlete who could run like the wind ( high school 880 record holder for a bunch of years). He could raise the energy level of any room he chose to enter. A charming, charismatic people person if ever there was one. The devotion to his faith as a Jehovah Witness, however, probably defines Fred D best. Having begun our friendship at Lincoln Elementary, I knew very little about what he believed, but I knew it was important to him. When we were at Lincoln Junior High, I was excited to talk about playing basketball and football, and asked Fred D if he was going to participate. He said no. He needed to witness after school, before it got dark. I didn't realize how important this was to him until after we had graduated from high school. The War in Vietnam affected all of us in so many different ways, whether men or women. Some were deferred. Some served in the military. Some volunteered. Some moved to Canada. And, then there was my friend, Fred DeLacy. He objected to the war based on his religious beliefs, was denied, and spent close to two years in prison. This took more courage and conviction than I could begin to imagine. Yet, while he was away, he was still able to witness. I know this because one Saturday after he had returned home, I saw him walking down 20th Ave. like he owned it, much like the same old Fred D. We talked for a long time, about so many things. I got to tell him I was so proud of him. Then he was on his way ready to give witness again. I am so thankful he was my friend.

A great tribute, Tim. Freddie was bigger than life. He was all smiles when he entered a room, and he always made you feel like you were his best friend.
